Results of our first project year

As the coordinator of the Nordplus Junior Our Baltic Sea project, I’m very proud to share the results of our first project year. I’ve seen incredible engagement, creativity, and collaboration among our partner schools, teachers and students across the Baltic region. During the first project year, we’ve got to know each other. It’s always a big pleasure to meet dear colleagues and students during our online and in-person meeting activities!

From the very beginning, our goal has been to foster environmental awareness and cross-cultural understanding through hands-on learning and shared experiences.

We started with planning meetings and the creation of an eTwinning project to support communication and documentation of our project work. We wanted to make it possible for our students to immerse themselves in research, investigating the state of the Baltic Sea through water sampling, biodiversity studies, and analysis of pollution and climate impacts. I think that with the help of our eTwinning activities, theme day activities organized in each partner school and our in-person meetings we have been able to offer great learning possibilities for our students and teachers.

I would say one of the most rewarding aspects of the project work has been the creative workshops, where students have been expressing their connection to the sea through photography, video, and visual arts. We have organized four project meetings so far, we have met in person in Sweden, Estonia, Lithuania, Lithuania and Finland. These exchanges not only deepened students’ understanding of environmental issues but also built lasting friendships and strengthened intercultural ties.

Reflecting on the year, I’m thrilled to see how much our students have learnt about the protection of our Baltic Sea. They’ve gained valuable knowledge about marine ecosystems, developed confidence in their ability to make a difference, and formed strong connections with peers in partner countries. The collaboration between partner schools has been very smooth, and the enthusiasm from both students and teachers has exceeded all my expectations!

The first year has laid a strong foundation, and I’m confident that together we will continue to make a meaningful impact for the future of our Baltic Sea.
