The European Day of Languages is an annual celebration held on September 26th, aimed at promoting linguistic and cultural diversity as well as language learning across Europe. This day was initiated by the Council of Europe in 2001, following the European Year of
Languages.

The main goals of the day are to raise awareness of Europe’s rich linguistic diversity, which includes over 200 languages, and to encourage the learning of languages, as it enhances cross-cultural understanding, opens up new career opportunities, and promotes mobility and
international cooperation. The day also aims to support multilingualism, which is important for both individual and societal development. Language skills help build mutual understanding and combat prejudice.
