Tips on how to celebrate World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day – Our Baltic Sea Project

April 18 has been proclaimed as World Heritage Day by UNESCO. The purpose of World Heritage Day is to raise awareness about the diversity of cultural heritage, the vulnerability of sites and monuments, and the necessary measures to preserve them.

In 2025, UNESCO has determined that the theme “Heritage under Threat from Disasters and Conflicts” will be the focus. The key points will be how to prepare for potential conflicts and natural disasters that threaten our cultural heritage.

Our focus (Our Baltic Sea Project) is on the World Heritage sites and monuments located in our own country. It can be challenging to describe how they might be affected by climate change, construction plans by developers, potential conflicts in the vicinity, etc.

Therefore, the main focus on this day is to present one or more of the World Heritage sites or monuments that are found in our country. It can also be a presentation of a World Heritage site or monument that you believe should be included on the list. (https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/)

The presentation can be one of the following:

  • A poster with pictures and text.
  • A video showing the site/monument (max 2-3 minutes).
  • A PowerPoint with pictures and text.

The target audience for your presentation is other students your age, and the text/speech content should be in English.

Remember that it should be a unique site that is significant to your cultural heritage.

How the submission/presentation of your project will take place will be agreed upon with your teachers.
