Welcome to the second newsletter of our Nordplus Junior project “Our Baltic Sea”!
This newsletter will keep you updated on all the project activities and progress we’ve made from November 2024 to February 2025.
“Our Baltic Sea” is a Nordplus Junior project focused on raising awareness about the importance of the Baltic Sea. 16 upper secondary schools from Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania work together on project topics online and in person during the project meetings. The first project meeting took place in Stockholm in November 2024 and the second meeting took place in Tallinn in January 2025. You can read about the outcomes of the project meetings here:
In addition to the project meetings, many other project activities have taken place in partner schools and online. It has been a pleasure to see how the participating teachers and students have made friends with each other. We got to know each other during the days spent together in Stockholm. Online and in person meetings after the Stockholm week have been different, when friends met again!

The period from November 2024 to February 2025 has been busy and productive, with several key activities taking place:
eTwinning
We successfully held our eTwinning kick-off meeting 25 November 2024. Representatives from all partner schools introduced themselves and we discussed the goals, timelines, and communication strategies for the eTwinning collaboration:
eTwinning collaboration start, kick-off online meeting
In December, students had an online meeting with the topic “UNESCO values and Socially sustainable future”
In January, the students worked together online on the topic“Human rights and youth in the Baltic Sea region”
The next online meeting for students will take place in April 2025.
Theme days
Many different theme days have been and will be organized during the project period. Each partner school is responsible for sharing tips on how to celebrate one of the theme days:
Curriculum development
In our project, we develop a cross-curricular learning module about the Baltic Sea. This module will be used in classrooms across all participating countries and will cover topics such as marine biodiversity, pollution, sustainable fishing and climate change impacts
Project meeting planning
During the project meeting in Tallinn, we started planning the upcoming project meeting in Lithuania. The meeting will take place 12 – 16 May 2025. We have already explored different options for accommodation, transport, activities and workshops. The preliminary visit agenda was presented by the contact teacher of the Lithuanian partner school during the project management online meeting 12 February 2025. The first draft of the visit programme for the project meeting in Helsinki 8 – 12 September was presented as well.
